Digital Printing Technology in University Experiential Learning Classes - Textile Science & Fashion Technology

Experiential  learning-that  is, hands-on learning or learning by  doing-has long been known as   one  of the best ways for students to learn [1]. By applying their theoretical knowledge in real-life situations, students can gain a concrete understanding of complex ideas. When students study   abstract topics such as visual design, it’s even more important for instructors to find ways  to  teach experientially. Measuring and describing the impacts of experiential learning activities helps  university  professors understand which of their  practical  activities  such as laboratory  assignments  and  practicums are most effective, but, more importantly, evaluating teaching methods helps explain why some methods are more effective and how learning takes place in various  practical experiences [2].

Ear, Nose and Throat Approach in Autoimmune Blistering Diseases - Otolaryngology and Rhinology

Autoimmune blistering diseases (AIBD) are a group of rare blistering disorders of the skin and  mucous membranes due to autoantibodies directed against specific proteins. Involvement of mucosal areas in AIBD significantly increases patient morbidity and mortality. Ear, nose and throat (ENT) examination should be a routine procedure to evaluate mucosal involvement in every AIBD. Patients should be asked whether they had oropharyngeal, ear, nose and throat symptoms and all patients should be evaluated for ENT manifestations by direct and endoscopic examination even in patients without symptoms.

Architecture as Symbol and Measure of the Sky in the Ancient and Middle Ages - Archaeology & Anthropology

Architectural space is expressed by the union between matter and light, texture and perception, mediated by surfaces, materials, volumes and colors. The relationship between light and space has been known even from the early builders, which in elevating the monoliths have attempted to relate them to the movement of the sun and stars. Architecture was used as a verification tool of these observations, and at the same time for communication and collective celebration of the first major discoveries derived from the observation of nature. Therefore, you can cite numerous examples of architecture built according to specific geometrical relationships associated to astronomical observations. The present study is aimed to put in relation the theoretical studies about the representation of light and shadow, the knowledge and the beliefs in the ancient and Middle time with the material characters of architecture. They are analyzed examples from the ancient and Middle age to find elements like the orientation of ancient buildings according to cosmic symbols or using of the light to mark the time and the calendar.

Integration Factor Construction to Improving Aesthetic, Physical and Mechanical Properties of Double Layer Woven Fabrics by Denting and Stitches Systems - Textile Science & Fashion Technology

Clothing for garments, upholstery and geotextiles are designed through integration factor construction (IFC) are differentiated the system of reed denting; the decrease in the (IFC) means that the open porosity for double-layer fabrics increases and at the same time the air permeability also increases. The properties of fabrics were analyzed by determining the efficiency of fabric integration
factor construction (IFC). The woven fabric multi-layer structure, the warp and weft densities, and the type of weave are factors of  a woven fabric, which as porous material enables to transmit air, heat energy, and liquid perspiration. Several methods considering thread  distributions  have  been  developed  to  determine  the  woven  fabric’s  aesthetic,  physical  and  mechanical  properties.  A
mathematical model based on an ideal geometry of the porous structure of a multi-layer woven fabric has been developed.

Effects of Element Directivity in Linear-Array Photoacoustic Imaging - Biomedical Engineering & Biotechnology

Photoacoustic  imaging  (PAI)  is  an  emerging  medical  imaging  modality  with  a  steady  growth  in  both  pre-clinical  and  clinical  applications. In linear-array PAI, beamformers play a significant role in the image reconstruction procedure. Generally, beamformers assume  a  point-  like  model  for  the  elements  of  the  array,  and  the  elements  are  assumed  to  be  omnidirectional.  In  this  study,  we  investigated  the  effects  of  receiver  element  directivity  on  the  Photoacoustic  (PA)  image  formation  procedure  where  delay-and-sum  (DAS)  and  delay-multiply-and-sum  (DMAS)  algorithms  have  been  used  as  beamformers.  The  proposed  method  is  evaluated  experimentally  (wire  phantom  and  ex  vivo  imaging).  It  has  been  shown  that  the  contribution  of  the  directivity  of  the  transducer elements  improves  the  PA  image  quality.  The  results  show  that  using  the  directivity,  the  sidelobes  of  the  formed  image  (wire  phantom) by DAS are attenuated about 20 %, compared to when directivity is not used. Moreover, signal-to-noise ratio achieved by DAS and DMAS is improved by about 12.5 % and 11.3 %, respectively.

About Climate Change - Civil & Structural Engineering

Humanity  annually  takes  away  more  and  more  lands  from nature: plowing it under crops, flooding it with hydroelectric power stations, concreting and asphalt cities and roads. The total area of such lands was 67% of the total land area of the planet by 2015. All water evaporated from such territories, at best, does not change its structure. As they came with precipitation, they returned back
to the atmosphere. At worst, they are impregnated and combined with chemical elements, which then, it happens that, with a strong concentration, they fall acid rain. Evaporations from artificial areas are substantially complemented by evaporation from technological processes of industrial and municipal production. At their core, these fumes are alien to nature. Before the advent of man, such fumes did not exist. You can call them artificial fumes.

Simultaneous Monitoring of Intracranial Pressure and Cerebral Blood Flow in Patients with Severe Brain Injury - Neurology & Neuroscience

37 patients with severe brain injury (admission Glasgow Coma Score 8 or below) were simultaneously monitored for intracranial and cerebral perfusion pressure and cerebral blood flow using transcranial Doppler ultrasonography. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to analyze relationships between quantitative variables. It was established that the increase of intracranial pressure leads to formation of Doppler ultrasonographic pattern of reduced perfusion, which involves relative decrease of mean linear blood flow velocity (primarily due to decrease of end-diastolic blood flow velocity) and increase of peripheral resistivity indices (pulsatility and resistivity indices).

Aging Vs Food Accessibility in Asia with A Focus on Iran: A Sociological Appraisal - Nutrition & Food Science

The paper explores how Asia as the largest continent with over fifty countries is facing food supply. While some well off and industrial countries of the continent have adequate access to food services, many others are not so. One of the social groups being seriously hurt by food problems, is the increasing aging people with no income, no pensions and isolated from work. Many Asian countries with longer life expectancy and increasing socio-economic expectations are in constant shortage of food and other items. Therefore, such countries with increasing elderly people need improved policies and financial security to get rid of food poverty. While the Western world started terminating food insecurity in early 20th century, Asian countries still have a long way to go, to change the lifestyles of their aging populations as far as their food services, housing, health and well-being are concerned. However, the consequences of aging are reflected in all facets of life, such as quality of life, food shortage, isolation and loneliness. All such characteristics and many more, need problem-solving approaches to bring about peaceful and normal conditions in the lives of such people.

Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) vs Calcium Hydroxide in Direct Pulp Capping – Literature Review - Dentistry & Oral Health

Direct  pulp-capping  is  a  treatment  for  exposed  vital  pulp  involving  the  placement  of  a  dental  material  over  the  exposed  area  to  facilitate  both  the  formation  of  protective  barrier  and  the  maintenance of vital  pulp.  Direct  pulp  capping  has  been  used  as  an alternative  approach  to  the  maintenance  of  vital  pulp  so  that  many  tooth  extractions  and  root  canal  treatments  could  have  been  avoided through the conservative approach of direct pulp capping. For this purpose different kinds of materials used such as Zinc Oxide Eugenol, Glass Ionomer (GI), Resin Modified Glass Ionomer (RMGI), Adhesive systems, Calcium Hydroxide, Mineral Trioxide Aggregate  (MTA)  and  Bio  dentine.  The  MTA  clinically  performed  more  effective  than  conventional  Calcium  Hydroxide  liner  as  a  direct pulp capping material, showed higher success rate than dycal. MTA easier to use clinically as a direct pulp capping material. MTA provided better long term results more effective than Calcium Hydroxide in maintaining long-term vitality. MAT significantly less toxic, less pulpal inflammations. MTA more predictable than dycal in formation of dentin barrier and superior than Calcium Hydroxide  in  dentinogenetic  process  in  human  pulp.  MTA  is  more  effective  and  superior comparing the Calcium Hydroxide as a direct pulp capping material, showed higher success rate with favorable outcomes in maintaining long term tooth vitality and easier to use in pulp capping. MTA is less toxic, less pulpal inflammation capping compared to Calcium Hydroxide. MTA superior and in dentinogenic process and more predictable hard tissue barrier formation.

Behavioral Couples Therapy for Substance Use Disorders: Recommendations for Implementation - Journal of Addiction and Psychology

In Behavioral  Couples  Therapy  (BCT)  is  a  theoretically-based,  manualized,  and  an  empirically  supported  treatment  based  on  social  learning  theory  which  posits  that  distressed  couples  engage  in  interaction  patterns  characterized  by  punishment  rather  than mutual positive reinforcement behaviors. BCT was originally designed for a marital family model of general psychotherapy; however, in the past 4 decades, BCT has proven to be effective for the treatment of conjoint alcoholism and substance abuse. Despite empirical  data  demonstrating  positive  outcomes  with  this  population,  BCT  has  not  been  widely  accepted  in  community-based  alcoholism and drug abuse treatment. Implementation of new treatments, like BCT, often fail due to a lack of careful consideration as to whether the necessary resources, timing, and commitment of staff and management are present to launch the treatment process into action for full operational execution. A successful implementation process requires a cultural shift within and throughout the agency. Recommendations for implementation of BCT for community-based agencies are presented along with several reasons why implementation often fails.

It is  rare  in  the  second  trimester  of  pregnancy.  Placenta  percreta  is  becoming  more  common  as  cesarean  section  and  other  uterine  surgeries increase. The presence of a uterine scar remains a major risk factor. Clinical presentation is variable with Antepartum hemorrhage is a usual scenario. However, it is usually seen in the third trimester. The presentation here is rare since it occurred in the second trimester rendering clinical suspicion difficult as was evident in the case. We here present a rare presentation of placenta percreta  occurring  in  the  second  trimester  as  an  acute  abdomen  secondary  to  uterine  rupture  and  intraabdominal  hemorrhage. She had a life-saving total hysterectomy and good postoperative recovery period. This might be the first case to be presented from Middle east with such scenario. Careful evaluation of a pregnant lady with an acute abdomen must be done with consideration of
abnormal placentation as a cause, especially in a patient with risk factors for abnormal placentation.
