Effect of Various Fuel Conditions on the Synthesis of Nano Crystalline LiNiVO4 Powders - Material Science

LiNiVO4 is of interest as a potential cathode material for rechargeable (secondary) lithium ion battery applications. The use of LiNiVO4 instead of LiCoO2, LiMn2O4 or LiNiO2 offers a higher voltage of 4.8V in these batteries. Better performance of this cathode material is due to its physical and chemical properties like crystallite size, homogeneity, which are mainly depends on the synthesis
process  and  fuel  conditions.  Hence, in the present work, Nano crystalline inverse spinel  LiNiVO4  powders were prepared by the gel combustion method with lithium, Nickel nitrides and ammonium Vanadate as oxidant and starch and glycine mixtures as fuels. Reaction conditions and behavior of the polymeric intermediates as well as crystal structure morphology of LiNiVO4 nanopowders were investigated by, FTIR, SEM and XRD methods. Results showed that pure LiNiVO4 nano powders was fabricated by gel combustion method and nano powders with 88nm crystallite size was obtained by using 1.04 Molar ratio of fuel to oxidant materials.

Brain Evolution: Brainstem and Cerebellum followed by Spinal Cord - Neurology & Neuroscience

The  brain  is  a  complex  organ  that  serves  as  the  center  of  the nervous system. The brain exists in human, animals and trees, from microscopic  size  in  viruses  to  the  complex  composition  in  human being.  The  brain  is  composed  of  the  cerebrum,  the  brainstem  and  the cerebellum and followed by the spinal cord. This very specific organ is located inside the skull bones of the head. The shape and size of the brain varies greatly between species from more primitive ones to advanced brains.

Biostatistical Models of Antibiotic Residues in Soil Water Due to the Use of Poultry Manure - Biostatistics & Biometric Applications

The intensive use of poultry manure is a significant environmental risk to soil water. Manure composition emissions can be effected by soil water with the application of poultry manure. The vectors to represent the relationship between soil water characteristics and antibiotic were generated. A Semi-empirical Richards equation is employed to the biostatistical models of soil moisture while precise solutions of Richards equation obtained by using the ()/GG′- expansion method and the homogeneous balance method. Then the biostatistical models which involve several variables including soil moisture content, soil depth and timescales were assumed according to the exact solutions of Semi-empirical Richards equation. At least one antibiotic was detected in all the soil water and poultry manure samples. Results confirmed that the contamination of vegetables by fecal bacteria is mainly due to the use of poultry manure.

Measures of Crime: A Pressing Issue for the Future of Criminology - Forensic Science & Medicine

“Measurement is the basis of all science” [1, p. 70]. Regardless of the subject matter, whether in physics or chemistry, psychology or criminology, every scientific discovery has a measurement process attached. A process that can be more or less complex, depending on the accuracy intended and, of course, the complexity of the object in question. In the particular case of criminology, where crime is the fundamental  object  of  study,  researchers  struggle  with  a  variable  that is inherently difficult to measure.

Role of Biotransformation Based on Intestinal Flora in the Research and Development of TCM - Pharmacy & Pharmacology Research

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is of great significance to the research and development of new drugs due to its various active components. Meanwhile, as the focus of current research, biotrans-formation  greatly  stimulates  the  investigation  of  TCM.  Intestine  is  the  primary  place  for  the  metabolism  of  oral  drugs  in  the  human  body, where a number of parasite bacteria flora play an inevitable role in the biotransformation of drugs. Thus, it is obviously that the biotransformation based on intestinal flora is a powerful tool in the development of TCM.

Cognitive Inhibitory Control Capacities Revealed by Cross-Language Priming - Neurology & Neuroscience

Language access in bilinguals requires highly refined selective attention abilities. This review chronicles the implications from cross-language priming studies collected from three different continents. These research explorations using novel selective attention paradigms begin to reveal the local word and global language inhibitory control capacities the bilingual brain uses to modulate its languages. Neurological and clinical implications regarding inhibitory mechanisms and the potential applicability to mental control deficits are also raised.

The Bender Gestalt-II an Underutilized Tool in Brief Neurological Screening - Neurology & Neuroscience

School personnel and others involved with students with head injury, brain damage and concussion have difficulty monitoring recovery and progress of therapeutic intervention  in cases of children  and  adolescents who have suffered a head trauma. The  recently revised Bender Gestalt II is a quick,  and reliable  dependable test that will at least provide some information as to recovery from head injury or concussion and will provide a way in which clinicians can monitor progress and recovery. This article will provide preliminary information about the revised Bender Gestalt II and outline some ways in which this instrument can be employed to provide feedback as to growth and recovery regarding head injury.
