Correlation between Hydrolytic Enzymes Activity, Geographical Origin and Pathogenicity of Some Isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis - Pharmacy & Pharmacology Research

The 20 isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis (Foa) produce amylase and cellulase enzymes, with the development of lysis zones around the inoculum (clear region) on the selective medium, indicates starch hydrolysis and cellulose degradation, with a variation in the ability of the isolates to produce these two enzymes, and this after measuring the diameters of the lysis zone. After
Principal  Component  Analysis  (PCA),  we  found  that  there  is  a  strong  positive  correlation  between  mortality  rate  and  amylolytic  activity  CP 1  (74.80%)  on  the  one  hand  and  a  weak  correlation  with  cellulase  CP 2  (22.3%),  on  the  other  hand.  While,  there  is  no  correlation between the pathogenicity of the isolates and the geographical origin of the isolate or cultivar from which this isolate was isolated P=0.3042.

Bermuda Triangle: Mystery Solved - Research & Reviews

The  Bermuda  Triangle  is  a  mystery  no  longer.  It  is  simply methane gas bubbling up from the once swamp (swamp gas) below the waters of that area. The void left behind swallows up airplanes and ships which are never found. Fresh water is found which comes from the reaction of methane CH4 with salt water NaCl.

HDAC Inhibitors as Anticancer Therapeuticsa - Pharmacy & Pharmacology Research

Underlying mechanisms of carcinogenic aberrations in genome stems from genetic mutations and epigenetic modulations followed by a cascade of mechanistic events in signaling pathways. Acetylation status have been identified as one of the key markers of cancerous cells along with the over expression of Histone deacetylases (HDACs). In this context, HDACs are the focus of cancer research both from the cause and the treatment perspectives. HDAC inhibitors are one of the time-tested therapeutics and have recently been used as an effective adjuvant with the combination therapeutic regimens of cancers such as breast cancer. Here, we discuss the HDAC inhibitors as cancer treatment option in context with carcinogenic role of epigenetic modifications.

Individual Preferences on Grading Systems in Dental Schools - Dentistry & Oral Health

The objective of this study was to determine the type of grading system (pass/fail, pass/fail/pass with honors, traditional A-F grading) that individuals prefer in a sample of U.S. dental schools. Fifteen U.S. dental schools were selected, six of which used some type of pass/fail grading, the remainder used traditional grading and were randomly selected from a list of all U.S. dental schools. Six
schools of the fifteen received the questionnaire which included demographic questions, questions on status as student or faculty, questions on current school grading system and individual preference for grading system types. Data was analyzed using an ANOVA with post hoc analysis using the Bonferroni method. Faculty significantly strongly disagree with pass/fail grading as compared to
students (p=0.001, CI 3.07-3.70). Additionally dental school faculty were more likely to disagree with the pass/fail/pass with honors grading system than first and second year dental students (p=0.001, CI 2.74-3.38). Faculty agree significantly more with traditional grading compared to students. (p=0.001, CI 2.10-2.77). Overall faculty prefer traditional grading and disagree with pass/fail grading of both types especially compared to first and second year students concerning pass/fail/pass with honors grading. This study will add to a growing body of research on the benefits, risks and effects of varying types of grading systems used in dental schools and their relation to the potential success of students both in dental education and those entering into dental postgraduate education programs.

Technological Characterization of Bigadic Boron Works Waste Clay: A Case Report - Engineering Sciences

The aim of this study is to characterize the technical properties of Bigadic Boron Works Waste Clay (BWC) fired at various temperatures. For this purpose, the clay sample was first characterized by chemical and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. The mineralogical  composition  of  BWC  was  composed  of  ulexite,  smectite,  illite,  quartz,  calcite  and  magnesite  phases.  To  evaluate
technological behaviors, pressed clay samples were fired separately at temperatures between 900, 950 and 1000° C. Fired specimens were evaluated by water absorption, linear shrinkage, bending strength, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and color measurements. The results showed that there became a significant densification at temperatures especially above 950° C. Based on the technological characteristics, BWC could be used as an additive raw material in the manufacture of structural ceramics.

A Charge Transfer Determination of Paracetamol with Picric Acid - Pharmacy & Pharmacology Research

Paracetamol chemically known   as N-acetyl-p-aminophenol and  also  known  as  acetaminophen  is  a  widely  used  analgesic  and  antipyretic  drug [1]. It  is  sometimes used  in  combination with caffeine,  ibuprofen  and  diclofenac  sodium [2]. Literature  has  reported  the  methods  for  analyzing  paracetamol,  they  include; Spectrophotometry determination of paracetamol with microwave assisted alkaline hydrolysis [3], spectrophotometric determination of  paracetamol with   ammonium molybdate in strongly acidic  medium to produce  molybdenum  blue [4].

A Simplified Approach to Rehabilitation of Swallowing: the Labiotherapy - Dentistry & Oral Health

Functional rehabilitation is now part of the treatment of dysmorphoses requiring orthodontic treatment. But it is actually all practitioners who should be concerned with acquiring a myofunctional balance in the oral zone. Joint prostheses, implants,  complete  prostheses,  periodontal  health  all  these  daily acts absorb muscle forces generated by oral praxies. Abandoned during the initial  training, these functional rehabilitation procedures,  which are time-consuming and maltreated by the nomenclature, are insufficiently integrated into the daily practice of general practitioners.
