Isothermal Thermogravimetric Analysis of Recycled Carbon Fiber Composites - Engineering Sciences

Isothermal Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) is a technique in which the mass of a substance is monitored as a function of time as the sample specimen is subjected to a controlled temperature program in a controlled atmosphere. In this research, isothermal TGA was carried out to determine the thermal stability of the recycled epoxy-based and vinyl ester-based carbon fiber composite (CFC). The specimens were heated at constant temperature under nitrogen and air. We evaluate the influence of different temperature on the degradation of recycled CFCs. Results indicate that different temperature has significant influence on the degradation of the recycled CFC under nitrogen.

Effects of Cyber Bullying on Teenagers: a Short Review of Literature - Addiction and Psychology

Among the numerous advantages of the internet, there is an unintended outcome of the internet’s extensive reach: the grow in grate of harmful of fences against children and teens. Cyber-bullying victimization has recently received a fair amount of attention due to some heart-breaking events orbiting in schools and even at homes. Although research has already demonstrated a number of serious consequences of cyber-victimization, many questions remain unanswered concerning the impact of cyber-bullying. This study gathers literature from 18 studies pieces together only the factors that kick-start cyber-bullying perpetration and victimization but also the effects of bullying on the victims as well as the bullies.

Peer Reviewed Open Access Academic Journals Versus Conventional Paper Based Formats–What’s the Difference? - Dentistry & Oral Health

Congratulations to Iris Publishers on the release of the inaugural issue of the Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health. Open access research outputs have generated considerable discussion in recent years amongst the academic community due to the significant differences to conventional paper-based academic journals. Those in  favor  of  the  conventional  formats  argue  that  the  paper-based  journals have a greater tendency to be read, as  hard (and  soft) copies  are  regularly  received  by subscribers as well as libraries and  academic  institutions.  Furthermore,  they  traditionally  have  higher impact factors as a result of these journals being around for several years and their regular base of subscribers. However, there are  several  limitations to the conventional  paper-based  format.  First  and  foremost,  their  content  is not as accessible as the open access formats. Requiring a  subscription to the journal or a fee to view the individual  articles  limits  the  audience  primarily  to  those  with institutional access as it is unrealistic for most individuals to subscribe regularly to several different academic journals.

The Importance of Flavonoids in Ruminant Nutrition - Animal Husbandry & Dairy Science

Recent scientific reports indicated that flavonoid could affect the rumen volatile fatty acids production along with a reduction in rumen methane concentration which  resulted  in  improvement  of  performance  and production. Flavonoids as polyphenolic compounds are powerful antimicrobials and antioxidants with anti-inflammatory and immune system benefits. Flavonoids can also promote the growth and development of animals as well as improve the quality of animal products. Therefore, these compounds are widely used as feed additives in animal production instead of antibiotics. Base on the research findings, addition of the flavonoids to ruminate diets could suppress methane production without influencing rumen microbial fermentation, fatty acid production and performance of beef or dairy cattle. Flavonoids are capable of the improvement of volatile fatty acids production together with a reduction in both rumen ammonia concentration and methane production which are considered as desirable changes in rumen environment. Also, the positive effect of flavonoids on rumen microbial fermentation and nutritional stress such as bloat or acidosis have  been  well  demonstrated.  Many  factors  such  as  chemical  structure,  absorption,  its  distribution  and  elimination  determine  the bioavailability of flavonoids. Isoflavones and flavanols seems to have lower bioavailability, whereas higher bioavailability of proanthocyanidins in ruminants were reported. Incorporation of flavonoids into dairy/beef products may provide a novel way to increase quantity and quality of future products of dairy farming.

Why Should we Learn to Swim? - Addiction and Psychology

There is an anecdote in which an intellectual was being transported in a small boat by a person of   scarce academic resources, when trying to mock this poor man he asks “young ... do you know? Of mathematics? And the poor boatman answers NO, and the unfriendly scholar tells him “because he thinks you’ve lost 30% of your life, later he asks him if he knew about philosophy and when he answered with a second refusal, the scholar in question tells him that he had he lost  another  30% of  his life, and he maintained it until suddenly the boatman, smiling, asked him, “Sir, do you? Can you  swim?  The intellectual in question responds, “naturally  not” and the boatman ends up telling him  “well, pretend that you lost 100% of your life because the ship sinks”.

Physical Disability versus Developmental Disability - Addiction and Psychology

Disability has been part of society from time begun, however, the study sorted out to inquire what exactly people thought about physical disability as well as developmental disability. The study made participants think along the lines of the perspectives they had  about  the  two  disorders  and  brought out the differences they had about them. This study was conducted in  the Abelemkpe and Dzorwulu vicinity where participants were selected based on their convenience. The study was developed from a qualitative methodology  and  semi  structured  interview  guides  were  used.  Form  the  study  it  was  brought to light that people were more accepting towards persons with developmental disabilities as compared to persons with developmental disabilities. They also made comparisons on the demandingness and care giving both needed, education and job prospects.

World Youth Day - Addiction and Psychology

Now that the world’s day of youth is celebrated, August 12, it is well worth understanding what it means to be young medically. When you leave behind primary education, a series of biological  changes begin that invade us in a terrible way, be it sleeping habits, the way of  relating  to parents,  the way we feed ourselves, the changes of our sexual organs (changes) as they begin the first sexual  desires, the doubts about menstruation, masturbation and in many cases the first sexually transmitted diseases or unplanned pregnancies.
