The vastus medialis  has (VM) been the object of much research. There is continuing  controversy  over whether  it  should be regarded as a single anatomical structure or if it consists of  two separate  muscles, the vastus  medialis  longus  (VML)  and  the  vastus  medialis  oblique  (VMO), based  on  the difference between the muscle fiber angle with respect to the femoral axis [1,2].
